Planning and looking forward to an indoor swimming pool took several decades in Vrchlabí. It was not until around 2018 that all the land was purchased and the City of Vrchlabí commissioned the project. The Vejsplachy recreational location was chosen and the entire facility was set in the beautiful surrounding landscape, with good transport accessibility. Construction began in 2020, which was entrusted to the Metrostav company. On December 27, 2022 at 10 a.m., the Vrchlabí Aquacentrum was opened to the public. We became aware on the very first day when, after seven hours of operation, the operation was interrupted for two hours. This has never happened again and the Vrchlabí Aquacentrum is open to the public every day.
There is considerable interest in the Vrchlabí Aquacentrum all year round. The biggest season is in the winter from Christmas to the end of March and then in the summer from July to August. There is always a shutdown during the first two weeks of September, everything is cleaned, painted and repaired. In November 2023, we welcomed our 100,000th visitor, which was Miss Denisa from Semily. Another famous moment came in May 2025, when we welcomed our 250,000th visitor. For this event, we organized an exhibition of photographs by the local photo club and installed new photographic decorations with a reference to the City of Vrchlabí with a number of unique photographs from the collections of the Museum in Vrchlabí.
The Vrchlabí Aquacenter is mostly visited by families with children for experiences, children learn to swim with us, students from local schools and kindergartens get to know the water and learn to swim with us under the leadership of the top team of Mr. Tomáš Břen, we have a constant circle of visitors who come to swim with us. We are always open for swimming only (no attractions) until nine o'clock.
From the first days, we have been concerned with savings, the requirements of which arose from operational experience.
OWN WATER FROM WELLS
AQC Vrchlabi primarily uses water from its own wells (wells) for its water supply, which not only contributes to cost savings, but also has an impact on the environment. Every liter that AQC does not have to use from the public network is good. This is a source of very high-quality water with stable parameters.
PV Systems
a 50 kWp photovoltaic power plant helps us with a significant amount of electricity consumption every day. This is a system without a battery, and AQC immediately consumes the energy produced.
Power Balance Services
we have become one of the elements of the SVR (power balance service). In moments when there is a surplus of energy, we turn on an electric boiler that produces hot water. It either goes into our systems, if there is current consumption. If it is not needed, it is stored in the form of heat in a 20 m3 storage tank.
SHARED ELECTRICITY
we purchase so-called shared electricity from alternative energy producers (large solar power plants with overflows) at an interesting discount.
WATER RECYCLING
in June 2026, we completed a project that had been in preparation practically from the first day of opening. The patented AC Pool New technology constantly purifies the water through fine filters, a neolith filter and reverse osmosis.
1) Showering before entering the pool is important for:
Removing sweat and cosmetics — We have sweat, creams, deodorants and makeup on our skin. These substances react with chlorine and create irritating compounds that can cause burning eyes or the typical “pool smell”.
Reducing bacteria — Showering removes a large part of microorganisms from the surface of the body. The pool water then needs less chemistry to remain safe.
Protecting other swimmers — In a public pool, we share the water with dozens of people. A short shower is a simple act of consideration that improves the quality of the water for everyone.
Better filtration efficiency — The less dirt we bring into the water, the less work the filters and treatment plants have to do. The water remains clearer and the pool operation is more efficient.
2) Does your pool seem overchlorinated? Did you know that we "chlorinate" the same way all the time?
The sodium hypochlorite dosage is provided by an automatic system. A shower before entering a public pool is a short ritual with a big impact.
So, in short:
